Think of it like a really extreme freelance career, working for tips at a seasonal bar or restaurant. Every day, week, month, you have to put in the work to build your revenue stream. One Friday, you could pull in $800. Memorial Day weekend, $2000. Then for all of June to August, $50 a week, or worse, you spend more on bus fare just to get to work. Same for trading. First you have to build some kind of personal track record. No one else needs to see it. No one else cares. It's just for you to know what you are actually capable of. You can't plan a monthly budget on an income you haven't proven yet. Calculate your rock bottom monthly expenses. Rent, transportation, bills, food. No entertainment or other discretionary spending. Compare to your hypothetical track record for trading. What's the worst month you had in a year? The best month? The average? How many months did you not make enough to pay your bills? From that, figure out how much of a savings buffer you need, to afford that many months of bills, and no trading income (or worse, trading LOSSES). Normal budget planning recommends 2-3 months of living expenses saved, plus an emergency fund. For volatile jobs, I'd say you need at least 2x that much. I've heard of some old school traders who only saw $0 or losses for 2 years straight. There's this penny stock trader guy Ross, who sells Warrior Trading education courses. In 2017 (?) he did a challenge where he traded $500 up toward a goal of $500,000 in a year -- he posted account updates (as far as one can trust them), and showed that he reached $335k by the end of the year, but had SIX MONTHS of zero to negative returns in the middle of his year. In 2012-2014, volatility died, and a lot of traders couldn't hack it in those conditions. With price movement dead for two years, how would you adjust for the lack of trading opportunities and income? Your living costs need to be as low as possible, and your trading income needs to be sufficiently high, so that even your low months are consistently able to cover your bills. If your living cost is currently $2500 a month, and you have a $50,000 job, then one example might be to downsize your life (take on roommates, whatever) to reduce your cost down to $1500/mo and aim for a trading account size combined with personal trading method that gets you an annual range of $50k-$100k. That way, even in a bad year when you only make $25k, you'll still be able to pay rent. And just as they recommend for people who make good tips, save the extra income from any good month or year, until you have that huge safety cushion to live off. It sucks immensely to trade under pressure when you don't have rent money. It's one of the big rules -- never trade with money you can't afford to lose. If that all sounds too unglamorous, keep a part-time to full-time job, and trade in the evenings/plan your setups on the weekend to juice your income. Keeping a base income means covering your bases (so long as the job market is good), leaving you to trade stress free. Even if you blow a $1000 account, hopefully you can build that back up in a few months of saving from your normal job. By the numbers, 93% of new traders quit or fail within 5 years. And only less than 1% of traders are profitable after expenses, per year. That means anyone who makes more than $0, so there's a long way to reach an income you can live on. Work towards being that successful guy, but make plans to survive the initial X number of years where you haven't yet proven your ability to be that guy.

How Much Money Do I need to Trade Forex, Stocks, Indices, or Cryptocurrency for a Living?
How Much Money Do I Needto Trade Forex, Stocks, Indices, or Cryptocurrency for a Living? Most traders start with small accounts of up to $ 5,000 or similar and plan to become millionaires within a year. Experienced traders already realize that this is, of course, wrong. You can only fault yourself because you have ambitious goals that will only frustrate you. Of our Tournament, we need a 10 percent monthly growth and that is called an advantage. The 10 percent benefit has been selected for being inspiring and still achievable. There is practically no day when all of our projects don't meet a Challenge. Many traders are going to make this required benefit too small, but FTMO has a set maximum loss of 10 percent. So we want the trader to earn 10% of the initial capital within 30 days, without losing 10% of the initial capital. So the desired profit, as well as the maximum permissible loss, are in balance. Since we are traders too, we know that there are sometimes months that do not correspond to our plan. If you do not achieve the desired profit, you will receive a new Challenge from us at least zero at the end of the period and you do not violate any other rule. We have an idea, thanks to a relatively large number of traders, of what we should expect from traders who progressed to their live FTMO accounts. More caution is generally exercised on the funded account, and consequently, the average gain is lower than in the Challenge. Only rare exceptions are profiting in tens of percent. We as investors are pleased to see a 4-7 percent long-term appreciation. Money for Trading Let's compare two accounts, a smaller account at around $5,000, and a $100,000 account that we're offering to manage. Let's be optimistic and count on a 7 percent monthly appreciation. The $5,000 account 's final profit would be $350 Our $100,000-funded account would print the $7,000 profit, but in this case, it is necessary to deduct our portion of the profit. You will earn a net profit of $4,900 after taking our 30 percent, which corresponds to the salary of an experienced banking programmer or financial analyst. If this was your first trading month, the fee you originally paid for the Challenge will also be refunded to you. Working with the concept of opportunity cost, too, is important. This term identifies the most profitable alternative activity you might be able to do, rather than trade. Hence we compare the alternative employment income vs. the resulting monthly profit. Let's say you could stay at work for two hours longer instead of evening trading, and take an extra $8/hour. Your trading will cost you $320 a month (20 working days x $16), Only because you're doing it. The resulting monthly trading income is only $30 higher ($350-$320) for your $5,000 account, and you risk your entire deposit! In the case of $100,000 of the FTMO account, the resulting net profit is $4,580, and our company will cover any potential risk of loss. These numbers are a little bit better, don't you think? It should also be remembered that if you ended up at zero for a month on a trading account, you'll earn $320 if you didn't trade. At first glance, it's obvious that living on a long-term basis without risking too much and putting trading on the side of gambling is not very realistic out of a small $5,000 account. So we think our services are of interest to all serious traders. Have you got what it takes? Make sure you pass and become a Funded FTMO Trader by completing the Challenge. If you have any questions please leave a comment below. Cheers and Profitable Trading to All. Eva "Forex" Canares How's Does FTMO Work? Hi Everyone, So I trade forex for a living. Use a windows only program called Meta-trader which I run via wine. Thing is I dont want to type the commands each time in the terminal. So I tried writing a bash script to launch the file quickly but it isn't working outside of the terminal. This is what I did. #!/bin/bash wine /home/kieron/pepperstone/drive_c/"Program Files"/"Pepperstone MetaTrader 4"/terminal.exe #!/bin/bash Now This works perfectly fine when I run in inside of the terminal (./Metatrader.sh). The problem is it won't run If I click it outside of the terminal, even though I ran chmod on it to make it executable. The problem is my mother also uses this program, and she doesn't understand commands and such things. So If I'm not around she can't start the program on her own. This is why I need the script to run when it's clicked on. However clicking on it doesn't run it, instead it just opens up it the text editor (gedit). Any suggestions? Thanks!
Technical & fundamental news on currencies.I would advise newer traders not to trade solely on external opinions because that won't cement your own methodology or reasons for trading.Excellent website for if you want an overview of the markets and daily reports. Also includes a trading journal and a lot of media attention.
This is absolutely amazing! I can't put a value on this! It's one of the best gems of the internet. Podcasts interviewing successful traders, some are notable such as 50pips, Walter Peters & Chris Kapre.
One of the best free online schools which tracks your progress and teaches you heaps on information. The forum is the gem, where many people keep trade journals and put up their strategies. Don't copy them but borrowing concepts and ideas is good.
SUPER IMPORTANT This website is paramount to your success, still in development but will provide users with an easy way to document trades. Success is determined by your willingness to follow through with the boring bits so keep this one in your bookmarks.

Forex Megadroid Forward Test. Here is a live account statement for Forex MegaDroid: I am also running Forex MegaDroid off my VPS on an I-TradeFX account. Three trades to date on it all closed in profit:
I'm trading for 11 months with pretty good success. I never traded metals and forex before, just stocks. Today when gold started to consolidate at the last hour, I decided to scalp short it with a large amount, so I opened 100 lots. I haven't realised, in forex 100 (lots) doesn't mean "100 pcs", because I used to stocks and I went full retard without knowledge. Seconds later, I realised it means 10 million dollars (1 lot = 100.000, and I had 500x leverage). It moved up a bit and immediately I was down £4000. I scared as fuck and rather than closing the position quickly I hoped maybe I could close break even. The market closed, and I waited for the Asian session. The gold popped like never before, and I lost all my life savings (£55000) in less than two hours. (including the 1-hour break between sessions). If I count that I lost all my earnings as well, I lost around £85000. Here is the margin call https://imgur.com/a/XY5m4ZA https://imgur.com/a/VSgmCSs https://imgur.com/pRWl5g9 IC Markets closed my position partially in every 1-2 minutes until I shut it myself at £35. You know the rest of the story. I'm depressed, crying and shouting with myself. Yes, I know I was stupid, thanks. I just wanted to share this with you. Edit: WOW THANK YOU, GUYS! I haven't expected this, but you help me. Many of you asked the same questions, I answer it here: - I live in Europe, and we usually trade CFD's, not futures. - Currency in GBP. - As you can see, this account made on IC Markets. They not just allowing you a 500x leverage, it's the default. - You can ask me why I went against the market. Because gold is way oversold? Because I expected institutions would sell their shares before gold is hitting £2000, leaving retails hanging there. Also, as I said, I wanted to scalp, not riding the gold all the way down. If I had a loss of £100, I would close the position immediately. But when I saw the £4000, my heart is stopped, and my brain just freezes. - I went for a revenge trade with my last £2k, and I don't have to say what happened. I uninstalled the app, and I give up trading for a while. - Again, in the past months, I was cautious, I lost a significant sum in March, but I managed to recover. Made consistent gains, always with SL. This is just an example of how easy is to fuck up everything you did. - I didn't come here for some shiny digital medals. I can't tell about my losses to anyone who I know in real life. I would make a fool of myself. - Anyone who attacking me that it is a scam. Well, think what you want. I feel terrible and the last thing is to answer all the messages saying "You fucking karma whore". I don't give a shit about karma.
If you don't know what I am talking about, just type it up. Take 15 seconds of your time, go in google images, and see the difference when you type "Forex lifestyle" and "stock market lifestyle". Theoretically, Forex trading isn't much different than stock trading. Both are financial markets using charts with candlestick that create the same patterns. Both rely on reports, news and the economy. Also, just like the stock market, banks and big insitutions trade forex too. In fact, forex is the largest financial market in the world with a daily volume around $6.6 trillion compared to only $200 billions for all the stock markets. Forex is responsible for the exchange of goods between countries. It is literally the foundation of a worldwide economy. So why is it that when someone asks you what you do for a living or that when you tell someone you're trading forex, you always get that weird suspicious look as if you're a fraud yourself. Why is it that people don't take seriously what you do and what you love doing, because they have this weird idea of a pyramid scheme created in their head. People are so lost. I mean, how could it even be a scam lmao. No matter what you trade: stocks, options, etf, bonds, forex, name them all... trading is trading. As long as I am making money and know what I am doing, and couldn't care less about other people's opinion nowdays lol. But lately I've been asking myself this question and I simply wanted to know other people's opinions. So back to my question: why does Forex gets such a bad rep?
And more importantly how much of a profit? I think the question above is the most important. It would basically show if you could make a living out of day trading or do it as a side job/money making hobby or stop since the time spent isn't worth the profits. A few questions from me, someone who spent a while doing several courses and learnt a few things about trading through forex. I make a profit on Forex and have a relatively green account history with a diversified portfolio, but since I am dealing with tiny lots the profit is negligible. The market is mostly driven my emotion not by math or science. Past prices, trend, support and resistant lines do matter for sure and I say this from experience. But is the probability of them failing low enough for me to go in with bigger lots? Nope. Throw in a few indicators and some fundamental analysis which makes things very confusing but doable after some practise and you only push that probability slightly lower. Probability and statistics wins this game and no one can deny it. You may argue a 60/40 win rate is you essentially making money at the end of the day but those odds mean small lots and a hobby more than a job to me. Charts look cool, the indicators cool, trading on a world stage very cool. But will my daily profits get me more than a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Nah. Thoughts from a newbie so hope you can prove me wrong.
Hi all. I am in a very difficult psychologically situation. I have studied for 7 years to be a day trader. Stare at the charts all day, actively manage, bla bla bla. So here is my struggle. Off the bat, my goal is to one day be a full time forex trader with no other source of income Recently I started reading off levels. I go in for 10m per day (while on the crapper in the morning) set up 20-30 alerts on my phone, and then just enter blindly for 1.5 rr during the day. I get about 60% strike rate, more than enough to be popping champagne and living the life. I get about 3-4 setups per day. That is option 1. Option 1 downside is eventually I get a short like gbpusd this Monday, where I got in for 4 pip stop and could have trailed it for 15RR! Option 2 is active trading. Sitting at the desk, charting out, following news events, the works. Taking positions, trailing stops to lock profits, the stress that goes with it. I should be happy with option 1 but it keeps feeling wrong. As if I am cheating. It cannot be this easy, can it? Furthermore, if I go full time to only trade 10 mins per say and make 2-3 R almost every day, what will I do the rest of the time? I am one of those guys raised with the "you have to work hard around the clock" mentality, and I know that does not apply to Forex and trading at all. Nevertheless, 10m per day just feels and sounds weird, and I can't shake the feeling I will get a slap in the face for it. But I backtested. I forward tested. I have been trading it in a micro account for 2 months and it checks out. Reddit, what is your opinion. Option 1 laid back, or go back to the grinder and do option 2 Edit : correcting typo View Poll
Step 1: Start by setting an amount you want to make per year from trading.; Step 2: Set a reasonable expectation of return. For a very good trader would be 15-25% per year – remember if you’re new to trading this is unlikely to be you just yet. Step 3: Desired income / return % = capital required. So if your desired return is £5,000 per year and your expectation of return is 20% you need ... Many people like trading foreign currencies on the foreign exchange (forex) market because it requires the least amount of capital to start day trading.Forex trades 24 hours a day during the week and offers a lot of profit potential due to the leverage provided by forex brokers. Forex Trading Often individuals ask me personally if it is really possible to make a living investing the Forex market. I would have to,,, Day trading for a living in India, Indonesia or South Africa, not only offers volatile markets, but you also have a very low cost of living, making a living a more feasible. Day trading for a living in the UK, US, Canada, or Singapore still offers plenty of opportunities, but you have an abundance of competition to contend with, plus high costs ... And if trading Forex for a living brings you more excitement and profits, you know which path to choose. Leisure Time vs Forex It is clear, that while your main source of income comes rather from your job than from Forex, you have to spend much of your time working.
